September-October-November Events
Sep 12th, 2008 by Peta Andersen
There are a few interesting events coming up in the book world over the next few months, the most exciting of which is probably the 2008 National Book Festival in DC on September 27th. Details, including a complete author list, are available at their website.
In Cambridge MA, Porter Square Books is having a slew of children’s author events over the next couple of months. Luckily, some of the Fees crew lives in Cambridge, because Jane Yolen (aka America’s Hans Christian Andersen) will be doing a reading from her new book Sea Queens on Wednesday September 17th at 1:30 pm. The complete list:
- 17/9 – Jane Yolen, 1:30 pm (Sea Queens &c.)
- 2/10 – David Shannon, 10 am (Too Many Toys, the “No, David” picture books)
- 10/10 – David Macaulay, 3 pm (The Way We Work)
- 14/10 – Susan Goodman, 10:30 am (See How They Run)
- 15/10 Graeme Base, 9:30 am (Enigma: A Magical Mystery, Animalia) Very excited about this one!
- 23/10 – MT Anderson, 7 pm (Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing — Volume 2) An excuse to do some re-reading, I think!

Finally, from Publishers Weekly:
‘PW’ Backing Book Lovers Weekend
Publishers Weekly is teaming with Steve Schragis to help launch the entrepreneur’s latest venture, the Book Lovers Weekend. Scheduled for Nov. 14-16 at Doral Arrowwood in the New York City suburb of Rye Book, the two-day event will feature authors, editors and agents leading a series of discussion groups, ranging from “Are Books Obsolete?” to “Writing About Books.” Among the confirmed speakers are authors Patricia Hannon (101 Things You Didn’t Know About Jane Austen), John Granger (Unlocking Harry Potter) and A.J. Jacobs (The Year of Living Biblically). PW editor-in-chief Sara Nelson will also speak at BWL, and the magazine will help to promote the event. PW associate publisher Cevin Bryerman said the partnership with Schragis is part of the magazine’s effort to expand its franchise into the consumer market. “PW is a great brand and we’re excited about the chance to work with Steve to get people involved with books and reading,” Bryerman said.As part of its expansion program, PW is also sponsoring Book Publishing 101 with NYU that is set for September 22 at the university’s Kimmel Center. More information about the Book Lovers Weekend is available at www.doralarrowwood.com.
Happy reading, People!
